Pet Central Helps! (PCH) is partnering with PetSmart Charities to hold an adoption event for National Adoption Week, Monday to Nov. 14.

The adoption event is taking place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the PetSmart at 1606 E. Empire St. in Bloomington.

PCH is a no-kill animal rescue that focuses on helping animals find their forever homes.

“We’re a pretty progressive animal shelter in that we don’t think that income alone is a reliable source of who’s going to be a good fit for a pet,” PCH staff member Stephanie Buhrow said.

“We put a lot of focus on keeping pets and people together, so if there is something that’s not going well, we try to work with that family to try to make it work for them.”

PetSmart Charities provides homes for pets, provides funding for other organizations that focus on providing for animals and help provide better access to veterinary care, food and supplies for pets.

PCH will be bringing all of their adoptable animals to the event. Attendees can fill out applications and adopt a pet.

“We’ll have puppies and adult dogs, as well as kittens and cats,” Buhrow said.

“People can come meet them and then we can do adoptions the same day. If they come to the event [and] meet a pet that they fall in love with, we can have the application out online on their phone, and then we can do the adoption processing and all of that at the event.” Buhrow continued.

Additionally, there will be a bake sale and face painting where attendees can choose the price for the goods and services. A fall photo booth will be available for attendees to take photos with their families and pets. All proceeds will go to PCH.

PetSmart Charities encourages attendees to think about adopting an adult or senior pet as they don’t receive as much attention as puppies and kittens do.

Buhrow said that adoption events are important as they allow potential adopters to directly interact with the animals.

“Reading about [the animals] is one thing, and seeing pictures of them is one thing, but actually getting to meet them [is different],” Buhrow said. “We just want to get our animals exposure and get them to meet the families that could be their forever home.”
